“no one sings… there are no funerals…”

“no one sings… there are no funerals…”

A dance in memory of the horror of the Holodomor, or murder by starvation, inflicted on Ukraine by the Soviet Union in 1932–33. A dance in memory of all victims of man-made mass death.

With this work I wanted my body to give voice to the unspeakable part: to dust, to bone, to cry. “What is fixed as ineliminable,” Edith Wyschogrod writes, “is that which is written by means of pain in the language of the body” (Wyschogrod. 1985. Spirit in Ashes: Hegel, Heidegger, and man-made mass death. Yale University Press. p.30) To dust is the dance of the body as eschaton, the last thing, a being thrown to the edge of its existence, a life dismantled and brutally undone.
